Tweeting with the Students again today...

We are meeting again today - the VCE class will meet at 1.30pm 8 Apr and they will have just finished an assessment task.  They will be either relieved or stressed.

We are touching base with them about their Twitter experiences and we will do a quick Twitter search on Stress in VCE.

This won't take long but will hopefully demonstrate how twitter can give some results.
Questions to pose to Twitter could be about:
  • Strategies to cope with stress in VCE
  • Stress managment
  • Study management
  • Time management

We will see how we go....

The aim is to get them more comfortable with Twitter as another tool for information and to see the power of Twitter as research tool

Our Tweets are reaching out...

This is great - and thanks to Howard for letting us know..

How I use my Favourite Tweets

I have a personal filing cabinet - it's called Favourites in Twitter!

I tend to browse Twitter a few times a day and have developed the habit of making favourites of Tweets I would like to explore more or think that others may find interesting.

I then spend some time going through the favourites and weeding them out... I email the tweets around to others within The Gordon who I think would find them useful in their work, and I explore the links etc further when I have time.

I know my learning has increased since becoming a regular Twitterer - I've chosen people to follow who are mainly work related  - but who could resist following #qanda!  It's like the best dinner party to be a part of every Monday night!

Twittering away....

Since the last class we have been using the time sharing our search results on the topic.  This has been great and we have been sharing our findings.

The topic of Land Rights for Australian Aboriginals has proven to be a bit difficult to find information with much substance in the time frame given - the linkages take a bit of time to develop, as those who are regular Twitterers know.

But we will keep on searching on Twitter.

Support Docs to students

All a Twitter...handout to students

A copy of a support and "how to" document can be found from the above link.  It outlined to students what Twitter is all about, how to set up a Twitter account and begin Tweeting....and gave them lots of other info....

Social Media Survey to Students Report

Twitter Survey Report

The above link will take you to the results of a survey conducted with the Twitter Trial Group on 25 March.

Before they began using Twitter they were asked a series of questions - the group is made up from VCE Outdoor Education Students.

The results are interesting!  Have a look...

Well we started....what did we find..

The group were great - they were keen to get on to the computers and multi-task!  Facebook, Google and Twitter running at the same time!

They completed the survey and results were predictable - will post them separately...

They set up their Twitter accounts and had a play and practice - they followed each other, looked for famous people, sent Tweets to each other and had a practice with searching in Twitter and with search.twitter.com.

Not much came up on Native Title but they will explore more with anothe topic  - the Queensland floods.

They now have two weeks to use Twitter for locating information before I touch base with them again.

We'll see what they think then...
